19 May Entryway Essentials
The entryway can be one of the trickiest spaces in your home to design. As the first space you see when you enter a home, the entry has to make a good impression! A house should flow as you walk through it, not be disjointed, and the entry is where it all starts. You want your entry to be functional, but also be an aesthetic preview of what the rest of what your home’s design is all about.
There are key pieces that go into making a great entryway, so we’ve gathered a few items that make the list of our ‘entryway essentials’. Take a look!
Console
You could interchange a bench here depending on what you’re going to be using the entry for, but in most cases we think a console table is the way to go! It’s an extra surface to house frames, art, candles, light fixtures, vases and storage, which is great, especially if you don’t have many other surfaces for things like this throughout the rest of your home.
When looking for a console, consider the size of your space and what you’ll be using it for. Do you need (or want) to store extra seating (like a couple of stools) underneath? If so, go for one with no shelves underneath. Stools underneath a console can be a functional as well as an aesthetic choice for your entry.

If you need storage for shoes, books, boxes, baskets, etc, a console with one or more shelves may be right for you.

Mirror
A mirror is an essential component for any entryway in our opinion! Not only does it make the space feel bigger and add another design element to the room, it’s always good to get a last glance at yourself before you head out the door, are we right?! 😉 Make a statement with a bigger mirror, or have a smaller one in a vignette with other frames and wall decor.

Key/Coat Storage
In terms of entryway functionality, having a place to hang your keys, purse, coats, etc. right when you get in is a great way to keep things organized. You don’t have to have a basic old wall mounted coat rack, though- have this be a part of your decor! There are lots of great looking wall mounted storage options to choose from that look good and work well.

Rug
Having some sort of rug in your entry, whether it’s a runner or another sized area rug depending on the size of your space, is a great way to add another element to your entry’s design, as well as having the functionality of catching the debris from outside. We love giving the entry rug a pop of pattern or color to really make a statement when you first enter a home!

Lighting
Depending on how high your ceiling is, you can either go with flush-mount or a pendant/chandelier. Don’t be afraid to go bold with this fixture! Even though it does need to mesh with the rest of your home’s aesthetic, the entryway is a place to show off your style.

If you have a large enough console, a table lamp can also be a great option! Use one on one side with other pieces such as a vase or candles to balance the vignette, or flank both sides of the console with lamps, placing a bowl on top of a stack of books for a more symmetrical look.
